TUESDAY, AUGUST 26, 1969 THE ARIZONA DAILY STAR SECTION -PAGE NINE Spy Charge Denied By Cubans Actions Of Delegates In U.N. Defended HAVANA (AP) Cuba denied Monday as false" charges that members of its U.N. delegation were spies in the United States. The official Communist party organ Granma said the expulsion last week of Cuban diplomat Eddy Espinosa Bonet, 25, and the refusal of re-entry to Alberto Boza Hidalgo Gato, 28, was "nothing more than a new and coarse provocation launched by repressive organs of subversion of the government of the United States (the FBI and the Central Intelligence Agency) against Cuba." Calling the accusations part of a U.S. "campaign of hysteria and hate" Granma continued: "Cuba has a right to watch the activities of its enemies.

But it is completely false that Cuba utilizes its permanent mission at the United Nations for these obpectives. "It is ridiculous to imagine that Cuban diplomats at the United Nations carry on espionage when they are under constant observation by dozens of CIA and FBI agents." Espinosa was expelled from the United States on charges that he tried to recruit a Cuban refugee to undertake a mission which a Washington spokesman said "related to the security of the office of the President of the United States." Hidalgo Gato, who was in Cuba at the time, was accused of trying to gather military information and told he could not return to New York. Granma also assailed the "yellow and sensational press" of the United States for their accounts of Washington's specifically mentioning the New York Daily News for reporting that Espinosa tried to plot the assassination of President Nixon if it should become necessary. Listing other U.S. "provocations," Granma charged: -The CIA had organized groups of anti-Castro exiles who returned from Vietnam "to carry lightning actions in Cuban territory from which they could run for the protection of North American authorities." -The CIA had installed new training camps for mercenaries in Nicaragua and Guatemala similar to one called "Calyton" in the Panama Canal Zone.

-The CIA, from a base in Florida, committed espionage and sabotage in Cuba and made "piratical attacks" which cost Cuban lives. Granma concluded the CIA and FBI "should know that our people, as in the Bay of Pigs, will respond adequately to each and every provocation and aggression against the Barring A Miniskirt From St. Peter's Miniskirts may have become increasingly popular with the fairer sex the world over, but they are still not acceptable in St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. As the manhunt spread for Ortega, officials also searched the banks of the Salmon River about 80 miles to the south for a pair of campers who may have fallen afoul of the escapees. A sheriff's deputy, who declined use of his name, quoted one of the captured men as saying the trio had come upon some campers in the Salmon River Canyon near Whitebird. "The other two forced two campers to go down to the river, then they came back alone," the 12-Year-Old Wins National Cappy Dick Contest Award Mark Hart, 12, of 2124 N. However, Sheriff Gene Fuzzell of Grangeville tended to discount the story. "We've searched all night and couldn't find a damned the sheriff said. "But we'll continue looking. I think, though, that the inmate is just telling a good story." Watson was caught at Webb Ridge, about 15 miles southeast of Lewiston, after threatening a nearby farm woman with her life and stealing her car. Grooms was captured about 30 miles east of Lewiston after a car driven by a hostage crashed during a high-speed chase over a winding mountain road.

The hostage, William Jensen, 28, of Lewiston, said Grooms forced him behind the wheel of his car at a tavern just a few miles from the point of capture and kept a pistol at his neck throughout the chase. Slightly injured, Grooms rested in St. Joseph's Hospital in Lewiston, where the nursing supervisor, Sister Davida, said "He's certainly not blind. "We can't have steak once a week like we used to," she said, "and we're eating an awful lot of hamburger." In her area, porterhouse steak has gone up 20 cents a pound in the last six months from a range to It's the same story all over in the wake of another cost of living increase last month half a per cent, announced last Friday by the U.S. Department of Labor. The relation between porterhouse and poorhouse has grown closer in six months in five other cities sampled: New York compared to $1.59, Atlanta $1.38 up from $1.18, Denver $1.65 from $1.49, Omaha $1.69 from $1.19, Los Angeles from $1.54.

"I've gone back to my European cookbooks and looked up 1,001 ways to cook chicken and stew-type things," said Mrs. John K. Kokish, wife of a Denver attorney.

"When you add a lot of cheap cooking wine to any one of these, you forget you're eating chicken four times a week. "Also, I've made lasting friendships with people who have vegetable gardens." String beans, at least, have held the line in the Denver area at 29 cents, and five pounds of potatoes actually have gone down in price from 49 cents to 25, because of the season. But New Yorkers are paying 35 cents a pound for beans, up 6 cents; Atlantans pay 28 cents, a nickel more than they did in mid-February. In Omaha, beans cost 34 cents a pound, up 9 cents, but in Chicago the price has gone down 10 cents to 29. "A large family is just over a barrel," said Mrs.

25. of Snails A Menace To New Guinea PORT MORESBY. New Guinea (AP) Australian agricultural officers in the New Guinea Trust Territory have declared war on giant snails, introduced originally by Japanese soldiers in 1942. The snails cause considerable damage in village gardens and are suspected of damaging coconut palms, on which New Guinea depends for its major export, copra. Japanese soldiers used the giant snails for food, but post-war New Guinea wants to get rid of them at all costs.

The latest invasion by snails is at Kieta, headquarters of the Bougainville Island district. Radio Kieta has been broadcasting appeals to villagers to kill the snails on sight. MORTGAGE AVAILABLE FOR GOOD PROJECTS Contact Mr. Springer or Mr. Brown TUCSON REALTY TRUST ca.
